Act 5 — Virex Prime

Era: The Fractured Stars (Era 1)
Previous: Act 4 — The New World
Next: Act 6 — Hell Host Rise to Power

Overview

Act 5 follows the War of Virex Prime, the final major confrontation between the Terrorism Control Agency and Free Order Rebellion.

Taking place alongside the closing events of Act 4 — The New World, the Act explores the battle primarily from the perspectives of the TCA and FOR. While Act 4 follows the Free World Order and its eventual intervention at Virex Prime, Act 5 reveals what was happening within the two armies before and during the attack.

Both factions arrive at Virex Prime expecting a decisive confrontation after years of warfare. Soldiers prepare for what many believe could be the final battle of the TCA–FOR War, while George Wilson and Jordan Thompson prepare their respective forces for another attempt to destroy the enemy.

The battle is initially shown separately from both sides, with several events crossing between their perspectives.

Eventually, the two stories converge.

The intervention of The Rogue Fleet brings Wilson and Thompson together before a massive Free World Order attack throws the entire battlefield into chaos. Faced with a new threat, soldiers who had spent years fighting one another are forced to cooperate.

Their temporary alliance becomes Operation Hell’s Hosts.

From the remnants of both factions, the Hell Hosts are born.

The Final Battle

By the time both armies arrive at Virex Prime, hatred between the TCA and FOR has been built through years of conflict.

Neither faction enters the battle intending to reconcile.

George Wilson holds a deep hatred toward Jordan Thompson and the rebellion he leads. Thompson considers Wilson an enemy and opponent, but views much of their conflict through the realities of war rather than the same personal hatred.

Both nevertheless intend to defeat the opposing faction.

Virex Prime is expected to decide which of them survives.

Instead, it destroys the conflict that created them both.

Sub-Acts

Sub-Act 5.1 — The Last Offensive

The Terrorism Control Agency and Free Order Rebellion begin preparing for the coming battle at Virex Prime.

Troops, equipment, and military forces are moved into position as both organizations prepare for what could become the decisive confrontation of the war.

Rather than following only one faction, the story moves between both sides as their separate preparations gradually bring them toward the same battlefield.

Sub-Act 5.2 — Before the Storm

The final period before the battle is shown from the perspectives of personnel across both factions.

Away from the larger military planning, ordinary soldiers and commanders prepare themselves for what is coming.

Years of conflict have brought both armies to Virex Prime.

The battle begins.

Sub-Act 5.3 — The Agency

The opening and middle stages of the War of Virex Prime are experienced primarily from the perspective of the Terrorism Control Agency.

TCA forces attempt to surround and destroy the Free Order Rebellion, with George Wilson and the Agency’s commanders directing their forces through the increasingly destructive battle.

Events throughout the story intersect with those occurring elsewhere on the battlefield, although the TCA does not always understand what is happening behind FOR lines.

Sub-Act 5.4 — The Rebellion

The battle is revisited from the perspective of the Free Order Rebellion.

Events previously witnessed by TCA personnel are seen from the opposing side, revealing the actions, decisions, and consequences behind moments encountered during Sub-Act 5.3 — The Agency.

Under Jordan Thompson, FOR forces continue their assault against TCA positions as both factions suffer increasing losses.

The separate perspectives eventually approach the same point in the battle.

Sub-Act 5.5 — Hell’s Hosts

The two sides of the story finally converge.

At the height of the battle, The Rogue Fleet intervenes and removes George Wilson and Jordan Thompson from the immediate fighting, teleporting the opposing leaders onto the roof of a building within the devastated capital.

Wilson and Thompson remain enemies. However, events surrounding them soon make their existing conflict increasingly impossible to continue.

Shortly afterward, the Free World Order launches a massive attack against the forces and orbital fleets surrounding Virex Prime.

The battlefield collapses into chaos.

TCA and FOR personnel who had been fighting one another only moments earlier begin cooperating against the new threat. Orders are issued to stop engaging former enemies, and units from both factions increasingly fight alongside one another simply to survive.

The emergency cooperation develops into Operation Hell’s Hosts, bringing surviving forces from both organizations under a joint military effort.

The alliance outlives the battle.

With the TCA and FOR unable to continue as they had before, their surviving forces are reorganized into a new faction.

The Hell Hosts are formed.

Crossing Perspectives

A major part of Act 5 is the use of overlapping perspectives.

Sub-Act 5.3 — The Agency and Sub-Act 5.4 — The Rebellion depict portions of the same battle from opposite sides.

Events that appear unexplained or incomplete from one perspective may later be seen from the other, allowing soldiers who initially appear only as distant enemies to become characters within their own side of the story.

The structure reflects the central transformation of the Act.

The TCA and FOR initially experience Virex Prime as two completely separate armies fighting their own war.

By the end, those perspectives have collided.

Themes

Act 5 focuses on perspective, hatred, survival, and the collapse of old divisions.

The TCA and FOR enter Virex Prime viewing one another as enemies. By showing the same battle from both perspectives, the Act demonstrates that the soldiers on either side experience many of the same fears, losses, and pressures despite fighting under opposing factions.

The creation of the Hell Hosts does not erase the years of conflict between them.

Former enemies do not suddenly become friends.

Instead, circumstances force them to fight alongside one another, beginning a difficult transition from two opposing armies into a single organization.

Consequences

The War of Virex Prime brings the TCA–FOR War to an end.

Neither the Terrorism Control Agency nor Free Order Rebellion achieves the victory it originally sought. Both instead emerge from the battle fundamentally changed.

The cooperation created during Operation Hell’s Hosts survives the conflict and becomes the foundation of the Hell Hosts.

The formation of the new faction marks the end of the TCA and FOR as opposing powers and begins a new period of galactic history.

However, the Hell Hosts formed at Virex Prime are not yet the faction they will eventually become under William Grant.

William remains outside the organization at this point.

His involvement comes later.
