Farlands Expedition

The Farlands Expedition was a major Hell Host military and exploratory campaign conducted during Era 4: Pareidolia, spanning Acts 19–22.

The expedition carried Hell Hosts forces deep into the Farlands, where they fought hostile cults and crossed increasingly dangerous anomalous territory before continuing into the Voidlands.

After further conflict within the Voidlands, the expedition ultimately succeeded in reaching The Forge, one of the most mysterious and powerful ancient structures known within the Omicron Galaxy.

The campaign became one of the deepest and most dangerous exploratory operations undertaken by the Hell Hosts.

Overview

Era: Era 4: Pareidolia
Acts: 19–22
Faction: Hell Hosts
Regions: Farlands, Voidlands
Final Destination: The Forge
Type: Military Expedition / Exploration Campaign
Status: Completed
Type: Military Expedition / Exploration Campaign

Objectives

The expedition was organized around several objectives:

  • Explore deeper regions of the Farlands
  • Establish routes through previously inaccessible territory
  • Investigate anomalous locations
  • Recover information and technology
  • Study Element 95
  • Identify hostile forces operating within the region
  • Locate and reach The Forge

Whether reaching the Forge was the expedition’s original objective or became its objective following discoveries made during the journey remains to be established.

The Farlands

The first major stage of the expedition took Hell Host forces through the Farlands.

Operating far from conventional Hell Host infrastructure created enormous logistical difficulties.

Expedition personnel encountered hostile environments, anomalous phenomena, Element 95 contamination, ancient locations, and groups that had established themselves throughout the region.

Among the most persistent threats were cults operating within the Farlands.

These groups varied considerably in beliefs, organization, and capability, but many were violently opposed to the Hell Host presence.

Repeated engagements transformed portions of the expedition from exploration into active military campaigning.

Cult Conflicts

Hell Host forces encountered multiple cults throughout the expedition.

Some occupied ancient sites.

Others existed within isolated settlements or operated from locations affected by anomalous phenomena.

Their beliefs and motivations were not necessarily identical.

Some worshipped entities or phenomena encountered within the Farlands.

Others sought ancient technology, anomalous materials, or knowledge.

Several regarded the Hell Host expedition itself as an intrusion into territory that should never have been entered.

Conflict became increasingly common as the expedition progressed.

These engagements ranged from small ambushes and raids to assaults against fortified cult positions.

Entering the Voidlands

Eventually, the expedition pushed beyond the Farlands and entered the Voidlands.

This represented a major escalation in both danger and operational difficulty.

The Voidlands contained environments and phenomena even less understood than those encountered earlier in the expedition.

Conventional navigation became increasingly difficult.

Anomalous activity intensified.

Element 95 contamination remained a significant threat.

Communication and logistics became increasingly difficult as the expedition moved farther from established Hell Host territory.

Yet the expedition continued.

Voidlands Cults

The Hell Hosts encountered further cult activity within the Voidlands.

These groups were often even more isolated than their Farlands counterparts and had developed around phenomena rarely encountered elsewhere in the galaxy.

Some had occupied ancient structures or anomalous locations for generations.

Others appeared to have deliberately travelled into the Voidlands seeking whatever existed there.

The resulting battles became some of the expedition’s most dangerous engagements.

By this stage, the Hell Hosts were no longer simply exploring unknown territory.

They were fighting their way through it.

The Journey to the Forge

Information gathered throughout the expedition eventually directed Hell Host forces toward The Forge.

The Forge was already surrounded by myths, fragmented historical accounts, and stories describing an ancient structure capable of providing extraordinary technology, weapons, knowledge, or power.

Reaching it was considered nearly impossible.

The Farlands Expedition nevertheless continued toward its location.

The final stages of the journey required surviving territory beyond normal civilization, overcoming hostile forces, and navigating regions where reliable maps and conventional navigation offered increasingly little assistance.

Eventually, Hell Host forces reached the Forge.

The Forge

The arrival at The Forge represented the culmination of the expedition.

For the Hell Hosts, simply reaching the structure was an achievement of enormous strategic and historical importance.

The expedition had crossed the Farlands, survived repeated cult attacks, entered the Voidlands, and continued through some of the most dangerous territory known within the Omicron Galaxy.

What occurred after the expedition reached the Forge would have consequences extending far beyond the expedition itself.

Expedition Forces

The expedition involved personnel and assets from multiple Hell Host organizations.

Likely participants included:

The exact order of battle varied throughout the expedition.

Specialist formations were deployed as new threats and environmental conditions were encountered.

Logistics

Sustaining a military force through the Farlands and Voidlands presented one of the expedition’s greatest challenges.

Hell Host forces operated progressively farther from conventional supply networks.

Equipment failure, casualties, contamination, hostile attacks, and environmental hazards continually placed pressure on expedition resources.

Ships and personnel could not always rely upon immediate reinforcement.

Every stage deeper into hostile territory increased the consequences of losing supplies, vehicles, spacecraft, or specialized personnel.

The expedition therefore became as much a logistical achievement as a military one.

Element 95

Element 95 represented a constant hazard throughout much of the expedition.

Personnel required extensive monitoring for exposure and corruption.

Recovered samples and contaminated equipment were handled according to specialist containment procedures.

Element 95 also became an important subject of scientific investigation during the expedition.

The deeper the Hell Hosts travelled, the more difficult it became to separate exploration from anomaly research.

Legacy

The Farlands Expedition became one of the defining exploratory campaigns in Hell Host history.

It demonstrated that organized military forces could penetrate deep into regions previously considered effectively inaccessible.

It also exposed the Hell Hosts to threats, civilizations, cults, technologies, and phenomena that would influence later military and scientific development.

Most importantly, the expedition succeeded in reaching The Forge.

That achievement alone ensured its place in Hell Host history.

The expedition began as a journey into the unknown.

By the time it ended, the Hell Hosts had crossed two of the most dangerous regions in the Omicron Galaxy and reached a place many civilizations considered little more than legend.
