Darius Vorn, better known by his callsign Anvil, is a Hell Host heavy assault specialist trained for suppression, fortified-position destruction, and prolonged frontline combat.
Anvil is deployed when overwhelming firepower is required against enemy positions that conventional infantry cannot easily dislodge.
Protected by reinforced heavy combat armor and carrying weapons normally impractical for ordinary infantry, Anvil advances slowly but relentlessly through hostile territory before establishing positions from which he can dominate large sections of the battlefield.
He is not deployed to be fast.
He is deployed to end what faster soldiers cannot.
Appearance
Anvil is an exceptionally large and heavily built human, usually seen almost completely enclosed within reinforced Hell Host heavy armor.
His armor incorporates extensive ballistic protection, impact plating, reinforced joints, ammunition storage, and powered support systems designed to compensate for the enormous weight of his combat load.
Unlike lighter Hell Host armor intended to balance protection with mobility, Anvil’s equipment prioritizes survivability and sustained firepower.
The result is a soldier who moves considerably slower than conventional infantry but can withstand punishment that would force most personnel into cover.
Anvil rarely removes his helmet while deployed.
Background
Anvil entered Hell Host service at a young age after demonstrating exceptional physical resilience, combat instinct, and suitability for heavy weapons.
His size and natural strength initially attracted the attention of heavy infantry instructors, but his greatest strength proved to be discipline rather than raw physical ability.
Anvil demonstrated an unusual willingness to remain under extreme enemy fire without panicking, abandoning his position, or wasting ammunition.
He subsequently specialized in heavy suppression and eradication operations.
Despite his age, repeated performance during high-casualty operations resulted in rapid advancement to Sergeant.
Anvil has developed a reputation for completing objectives under conditions where retreat would normally be considered justified.
He does not consider this remarkable.
Combat Role
Anvil functions as a frontline anchor.
Rather than rapidly maneuvering around enemy forces, he establishes control over an area through overwhelming sustained fire.
His primary battlefield roles include:
- Heavy suppression
- Area denial
- Fortified-position destruction
- Breaching support
- Shock assault
- Attrition warfare
- Defensive anchoring
- Anti-infantry operations
- Supporting advancing infantry
Once Anvil establishes a firing position, other Hell Host personnel can maneuver around the area he controls.
His presence can force enemy infantry into cover, restrict movement through exposed terrain, and provide advancing units with sustained supporting fire.
Anvil is particularly effective during urban warfare, sieges, and assaults against entrenched positions.
Combat Style
Anvil’s fighting style is based around patience, positioning, and overwhelming firepower.
He does not pursue targets unnecessarily.
He does not attempt elaborate flanking maneuvers when holding his position achieves the same objective.
Instead, Anvil identifies where his presence will have the greatest impact and turns that location into an extremely dangerous place for enemy forces to approach.
His slow movement is deliberate.
The weight of his armor, ammunition, and weapon systems prevents the mobility available to lighter Doom Corps personnel, but Anvil compensates by advancing methodically behind sustained fire.
When ordered to hold a position, Anvil is notoriously difficult to dislodge.
When ordered to advance, he does so until something physically prevents him.
HX-90 Heavy Assault Cannon
Anvil’s signature weapon is the HX-90 Heavy Assault Cannon, a high-caliber automatic weapon designed for prolonged suppression and structural damage.
The HX-90 would be extremely cumbersome for conventional infantry.
Anvil’s physical strength, reinforced armor, and powered support frame allow him to operate the weapon while remaining mobile.
The cannon is designed for sustained engagement against:
- Infantry formations
- Defensive positions
- Light vehicles
- Reinforced structures
- Fortifications
- Suppression targets
Its substantial ammunition requirements account for much of Anvil’s combat load.
Anvil carefully manages firing duration and ammunition expenditure rather than simply maintaining continuous fire.
His reputation for overwhelming firepower sometimes causes inexperienced personnel to mistake him for an indiscriminate gunner.
He is not.
Every burst has a purpose.
Additional Weapons
Modified MR-102E
Anvil carries a heavily modified variant of the MR-102E for situations where the HX-90 is unnecessary or impractical.
The weapon has been reinforced and configured around Anvil’s armor and preferred handling characteristics.
It provides him with a more precise alternative to his primary weapon.
39TG Siege Launcher
The 39TG provides Anvil with explosive firepower against fortified positions, enemy concentrations, and hardened targets.
He typically carries a limited number of specialized rounds due to the already considerable weight of his standard combat load.
Sidearm
Anvil carries a conventional Hell Host service pistol as an emergency secondary weapon.
It is rarely required.
Heavy Armor
Anvil’s armor is significantly heavier than standard Doom Corps combat equipment.
Its protection includes reinforced external plating, impact-resistant layers, explosive-resistant padding, and powered structural assistance.
The armor is designed to allow Anvil to continue fighting while exposed to levels of incoming fire that would force conventional infantry to withdraw.
However, the protection comes at the cost of mobility.
Anvil cannot match lighter personnel in sprint speed, agility, or rapid maneuvering.
He does not attempt to.
His armor exists to allow him to remain exactly where the enemy does not want him.
Personality
Anvil is stoic, disciplined, and extremely quiet.
He rarely speaks unless communication serves an immediate purpose.
This silence is sometimes mistaken for a lack of intelligence.
Personnel who have fought alongside him generally stop making that assumption.
Effective heavy suppression requires constant awareness of friendly positions, ammunition reserves, enemy movement, fields of fire, structural cover, and changing battlefield conditions.
Anvil processes these factors continuously while fighting.
He simply sees little reason to narrate the process.
Anvil strongly dislikes hesitation during combat.
He believes that once a decision has been made, personnel should commit to it unless battlefield conditions provide a genuine reason to change course.
This should not be confused with recklessness.
Anvil does not believe in pointless sacrifice.
He believes in finishing the job.
No Special Abilities
Anvil possesses no known anomalous, supernatural, or Ascended abilities.
His physical strength is exceptional but remains within the limits of an unusually powerful human, assisted significantly by his armor’s powered support systems.
His battlefield reputation comes from training, equipment, physical conditioning, discipline, and experience.
Within a military containing autonomous combat machines, experimental soldiers, and individuals altered by anomalous forces, Anvil remains entirely human.
This has never prevented him from keeping up.
Known Relationships
Hammerfall
Anvil holds considerable respect for Hammerfall and responds well to her direct command style.
Hammerfall similarly values Anvil’s reliability and lack of hesitation.
Her assessment of him is simple:
“He doesn’t need orders twice.”
Breach
Anvil and Breach frequently occupy different parts of the same battlefield.
Breach specializes in coordinating siege fire and breaking enemy defenses from range, while Anvil is often among the personnel advancing into the resulting breach.
Their personalities are similarly direct, resulting in very little unnecessary conversation.
Anvil once summarized their differing roles:
“You move fast. I’ll still be here.”
Aeon Unit
Aeon Unit considers Anvil an unusually reliable biological combatant due to the consistency of his battlefield behavior.
Anvil similarly appreciates Aeon’s precise tactical information and lack of unnecessary communication.
During one operation, Aeon’s assessment of Anvil’s defensive position consisted of:
“Unit stable. Position secured.”
Anvil reportedly responded with a single nod.
Reputation
Anvil’s reputation among Hell Host infantry is built primarily around one trait:
He is extremely difficult to move.
Enemy fire that would suppress conventional personnel frequently only slows his advance.
Defensive positions that prevent lighter infantry from moving forward become targets for his heavy weapons.
Once he reaches an objective, removing him can require considerably more effort than preventing him from reaching it in the first place.
This has produced a common description among soldiers who have served beside him:
“Anvil doesn’t take ground quickly. He takes it permanently.”
Anvil himself has never used the phrase.
