Hardfall

“The sky doesn’t send warnings. It sends Hardfall.”

Overview

Marcus Hale, known by the callsign Hardfall, is a Hell Host shock trooper serving within the Doom Corps as a member of the 892nd Galactic Drop Shock Troopers, better known as the Helljumpers.

Hardfall specializes in orbital drop insertions, first-wave assaults, breach-and-clear operations, urban combat, and securing high-risk landing zones before conventional reinforcements arrive.

Where other soldiers wait for a battlefield to stabilize, Marcus is usually sent in before stability exists.

He is loud, aggressive, fearless, and extremely comfortable operating in conditions most personnel would describe as catastrophic.

Hardfall thrives in chaos.

Preferably while falling toward it.

Appearance

Marcus is a large, heavily built human male suited naturally to the physical demands of shock infantry.

He wears reinforced Helljumper drop armour designed to survive:

  • Orbital insertion
  • High-impact landings
  • Fragmentation
  • Urban combat
  • Heavy weapons fire
  • Severe environmental exposure

Hardfall’s armour is bulkier than conventional Doom Corps infantry equipment and contains reinforced impact protection across the legs, spine, shoulders, and torso.

His helmet uses a gold-tinted combat visor and is fully integrated with drop-navigation systems.

The armour is rarely clean.

Marcus considers this reassuring.

Personality

Hardfall is loud, reckless, confident, fearless, and extremely comfortable under pressure.

He enjoys combat far more openly than many Hell Host soldiers.

Marcus talks constantly during high-intensity operations, particularly immediately before or after orbital drops.

The closer he gets to impact, the more talkative he becomes.

Other Helljumpers have learned to interpret this as normal.

Silence would be more concerning.

Despite his reckless personality, Hardfall is not actually careless.

He understands drop procedures, breach tactics, and urban warfare extremely well.

His confidence comes from training and experience rather than a belief that nothing can kill him.

Marcus simply believes hesitation is often more dangerous than commitment once the drop begins.

The 892nd Helljumpers

Hardfall serves within the 892nd Galactic Drop Shock Troopers, an elite Doom Corps formation specializing in extreme-risk insertion.

The Helljumpers are deployed where conventional entry is:

  • Too slow
  • Too exposed
  • Impossible
  • Or already compromised

Their missions commonly involve:

  • Orbital drops
  • Shock assault
  • Rapid landing-zone capture
  • First-wave deployment
  • Reinforcement of collapsing positions
  • Urban breakthrough
  • Deep enemy insertion

The unit’s role is simple.

Arrive first.

Create an opening.

Survive long enough for everyone else to use it.

Orbital Drop Operations

Hardfall specializes in high-speed orbital insertion.

Helljumper drops may begin from atmospheric transports, orbital carriers, or dedicated deployment craft.

Personnel descend using heavily reinforced drop systems designed to protect the operator during extreme acceleration and impact.

Once released, there is very little opportunity to change the decision.

Marcus enjoys this considerably more than most sane people would.

His drop routine is built around precise timing.

He checks:

  • Landing coordinates
  • Atmospheric conditions
  • Enemy anti-air coverage
  • Friendly positions
  • Equipment locks
  • Impact systems

Then he jumps.

Shock Entry

Hardfall is particularly effective during the opening seconds of an assault.

Immediately after landing, Helljumpers may be:

  • Surrounded
  • Disoriented
  • Under fire
  • Separated from supporting forces

Marcus responds aggressively.

His first priority is usually establishing immediate local control.

That may involve:

  • Eliminating nearby resistance
  • Securing cover
  • Clearing structures
  • Establishing a rally point
  • Marking landing zones
  • Opening routes for following units

Hardfall believes the first minute determines whether the enemy reacts to the Helljumpers or the Helljumpers react to the enemy.

He prefers the first option.

Breach and Clear

Marcus is extensively trained in close-range assault operations.

He frequently participates in breaching fortified structures immediately after insertion.

Hardfall specializes in:

  • Explosive entry
  • Door breaching
  • Room clearing
  • Hallway combat
  • Rapid target acquisition
  • Close-range suppression

He strongly prefers decisive breaches.

If an enemy already knows the Helljumpers are outside, Marcus sees little benefit in subtlety.

Urban Combat

Hardfall performs particularly well in dense urban environments.

Cities provide:

  • Cover
  • Vertical movement
  • Choke points
  • Concealed routes
  • Numerous breach opportunities

They also create chaotic battlefields where unit cohesion can deteriorate quickly.

Marcus thrives in this environment.

He uses aggression to maintain momentum and prevent hostile forces from establishing organized defensive positions.

Landing-Zone Security

Helljumpers are frequently tasked with securing areas for follow-up deployment.

Hardfall may be responsible for clearing:

  • Streets
  • Rooftops
  • Courtyards
  • Industrial platforms
  • Fortified compounds
  • Temporary extraction points

Once the area is secure, larger Hell Host forces can deploy safely.

Marcus refers to this process as:

“Opening the door.”

Relationship with Skyfall

Selena Rhenford frequently supports 892nd Helljumper operations.

Marcus trusts her considerably.

His view of insertion pilots is straightforward:

If the pilot puts him where he needs to be, he handles everything afterward.

Hardfall has summarized his confidence in Selena with:

“If Skyfall’s flying, I’m jumping.”

For someone whose profession involves falling toward active battlefields, this is effectively a glowing recommendation.

Relationship with Nexus

Samuel Ardyn regularly provides Helljumper teams with drop-path information, landing-zone intelligence, and battlefield telemetry.

Marcus’s interpretation of their working relationship is simple:

“Tells me where I land. I handle the rest.”

Nexus would probably argue that the process is slightly more complicated.

Marcus would probably stop listening halfway through the explanation.

Relationship with Vantage

Victor Rhenford occasionally provides post-drop overwatch and target designation for Helljumper units.

Marcus appreciates sniper support but dislikes seeing unexplained targeting lasers.

He once summarized the arrangement:

“If I see a laser dot, I know I’m not alone.”

The statement was intended positively.

Mostly.

Relationship with Frontline Units

Helljumpers frequently arrive before conventional Hell Host formations.

Hardfall’s usual assessment of this arrangement is:

“We open the door. They finish the fight.”

Marcus respects conventional infantry.

He simply enjoys reminding them who got there first.

Loadout

CR-556 Assault Rifle

Hardfall carries a CR-556 Assault Rifle configured for orbital drop and close assault operations.

The weapon is reinforced against impact and designed for rapid use immediately after landing.

Marcus favors:

  • High reliability
  • Fast handling
  • Close-to-medium-range effectiveness

He has little interest in delicate weapon configurations.

If it cannot survive landing with him, he does not want it.

PX-9 Service Pistol

Marcus carries a PX-9 Service Pistol as his secondary firearm.

The weapon is compact enough to remain accessible while wearing heavy drop equipment.

Breach Charges

Hardfall carries dedicated explosive charges for forced entry and structural demolition.

He uses them for:

  • Reinforced doors
  • Internal walls
  • Barricades
  • Defensive structures

Marcus has a reputation for occasionally interpreting “entry point” creatively.

Combat Knife

Hardfall carries a standard Hell Host combat knife for close-range defence and field utility.

Drop Survival Equipment

Marcus carries specialized equipment designed specifically for Galactic Drop Shock Troopers.

This includes:

  • Reinforced impact protection
  • Atmospheric survival systems
  • Emergency medical supplies
  • Navigation beacon
  • Drop stabilization equipment
  • Compact survival gear

Hardfall takes this equipment seriously.

He may joke during the drop.

He does not joke during the safety checks.

Callsign

Marcus earned the name Hardfall through his reputation for aggressive drop operations and unusually rough landings.

Whether every landing actually required that much force is debated.

Marcus insists they did.

Other Helljumpers remain unconvinced.

Regardless of origin, the callsign fits.

When Hardfall reaches the ground, everyone nearby usually notices.

Combat Style

Hardfall fights aggressively and at close range.

His preferred sequence is:

  1. Enter fast.
  2. Establish immediate control.
  3. Breach resistance.
  4. Keep moving.
  5. Allow follow-up forces to exploit the opening.

Marcus dislikes stationary firefights.

He believes shock troops lose their greatest advantage when they stop creating pressure.

Strengths

Shock Assault

Marcus excels during the opening stage of violent engagements.

Breaching

He is highly effective at forcing entry into defended structures.

Close-Quarters Combat

Hardfall is dangerous in confined environments.

Courage

He remains functional during situations that cause less experienced personnel to hesitate.

Physical Strength

Marcus’s size and training make him highly effective during physically demanding assault operations.

Weaknesses

Aggression

Hardfall can push an attack farther than necessary once momentum is established.

Limited Subtlety

He is capable of stealth when required.

Nobody chooses him first for it.

Risk Tolerance

Marcus’s comfort with dangerous operations can cause him to underestimate how differently others experience the same risk.

Momentum Dependence

Hardfall performs best while advancing.

Defensive operations requiring long periods of inactivity frustrate him.

Reputation

Among the Helljumpers, Hardfall is known as someone you want near the front of a drop formation.

He is aggressive enough to create momentum and experienced enough to understand what happens when shock troops lose it.

Among conventional Hell Host soldiers, his arrival usually means one of two things:

Reinforcements have arrived.

Or the situation has become bad enough that somebody decided to drop the 892nd directly on top of it.

Sometimes both.
