Overview

Operation Designation: Black Winter

Classification: Omega Black

Status: Mission Failure

Location: Angel Swords Territory

Participants: Six Hell Host Black Operations Operatives

Survivors: One

Mission Commander: Forsaken (Silas Mercer)

Operation Black Winter remains one of the most infamous missions in the history of Hell Host Black Operations.

Officially, it was a failure.

Unofficially, it became a warning.

The operation transformed Silas Mercer into the man now known as:

Forsaken.

Mission Objective

A six-person Black Operations team was deployed deep inside Angel Swords territory.

The mission involved covert infiltration and intelligence gathering under deep-cover conditions.

The team’s existence was denied at every level.

If discovered, extraction would become extremely difficult.

Day One

Insertion was successful.

The team established their cover identities and began gathering intelligence.

Initial reports indicated no major issues.

Mission progress exceeded expectations.

Day Three

Everything collapsed.

One member of the team made a critical mistake.

The operation was compromised.

Enemy forces identified the infiltrators and initiated a full-scale manhunt.

The mission was immediately considered unsalvageable.

The team attempted emergency extraction.

They never reached it.

The Hunt

Over the following days, the six operatives became trapped inside hostile territory.

Communication failures.

Destroyed safehouses.

Compromised routes.

Every option disappeared one by one.

Team members began dying.

Some were killed.

Others were captured.

Some simply vanished.

By the end of the sixth day, Forsaken was believed to be the last surviving member of the operation.

No contact was received.

No status updates arrived.

No one knew if he was alive.

Day Seven

When recovery forces finally reached the final known location of the operation, they found something impossible to explain.

The facility was silent.

No alarms.

No defenders.

No movement.

The entire installation had become a graveyard.

Bodies were found throughout the compound.

Hallways.

Command centers.

Barracks.

Security checkpoints.

The exact number of enemy casualties remains classified.

Many of the dead had been killed at close range.

Others had not.

Evidence suggested a prolonged battle had occurred throughout the facility.

No complete reconstruction of events has ever been possible.

The Last Man Standing

Recovery teams eventually located Forsaken.

Alive.

Standing.

Covered in blood.

Exhausted beyond medical expectations.

Most of his ammunition had been expended.

His combat knife had been used to the point of severe damage.

His armor was barely functional.

His team was gone.

Every other member of Operation Black Winter was dead.

When asked what had happened, Forsaken gave no answer.

He boarded the extraction vessel.

Sat down.

And remained silent for the entire journey home.

Aftermath

Operation Black Winter was officially classified as a mission failure.

The reasons were straightforward:

  • Mission compromised
  • Team lost
  • Objective destroyed
  • Extraction unsuccessful

The report was archived.

The operation ended.

At least officially.

For Silas Mercer, it never truly ended.

The Birth Of Forsaken

Many personnel consider Black Winter to be the moment Silas Mercer ceased to exist.

Not physically.

Mentally.

Emotionally.

Something changed during those seven days.

The man who returned was quieter.

More distant.

More controlled.

He continued serving.

Continued succeeding.

Continued completing impossible missions.

Yet those who knew him before Black Winter often describe him as fundamentally different afterward.

It was after this operation that the name:

Forsaken

became permanent.

Legacy

Numerous rumors surround Operation Black Winter.

Some claim Forsaken eliminated an entire garrison alone.

Others believe something happened during those seven days that remains classified.

No version of the story has ever been confirmed.

Forsaken himself has never publicly discussed the operation.

No one asks.

Most people do not want the answer.

Psychological Impact

Black Winter created several traits that continue to define Forsaken.

Self-Reliance

Forsaken rarely expects rescue.

Rarely expects assistance.

Rarely assumes someone else will solve the problem.

If something needs to be done, he assumes it is his responsibility.

Isolation

The operation reinforced his tendency to carry burdens alone.

Even when help exists, he often refuses it.

Mission Focus

Black Winter permanently altered his priorities.

To Forsaken:

The mission is the only constant.

Everything else can disappear.

Reputation

Within Black Operations circles, Black Winter occupies a near-mythical status.

Many operatives study the mission.

Few discuss it openly.

Among veteran personnel, a saying eventually emerged:

“Black Winter wasn’t a mission.

It was a warning.”

Quotes
