Overview
The Bounties Legion is a galaxy-spanning independent organisation of bounty hunters operating throughout the Omicron Galaxy.
Unlike conventional military factions, the Legion possesses little interest in controlling territory, governing populations or maintaining enormous standing armies.
Instead, it exists for one purpose:
Finding people who do not want to be found.
The Legion provides independent bounty hunters with the infrastructure necessary to operate across the galaxy.
This includes:
- Contract distribution
- Intelligence
- Target databases
- Payment handling
- Equipment suppliers
- Safehouses
- Medical facilities
- Ship maintenance
- Hunter stations
- Contract verification
- Information networks
In exchange, the Legion receives a percentage of completed contracts.
Individual hunters retain enormous freedom over their equipment, methods, appearance and preferred contracts.
As a result, there is no standard Bounties Legion soldier.
There are only hunters.
Philosophy
The Bounties Legion is neither a conventional military nor a government.
It does not seek conquest.
It does not demand ideological loyalty.
It does not require hunters to share political beliefs.
The Legion is fundamentally a professional network built around contracts, reputation and results.
Hunters may come from radically different backgrounds and species.
Some operate according to strict personal codes.
Others care almost exclusively about payment.
Some prefer targets alive.
Others specialise in termination.
The Legion does not require its members to like one another.
It requires them to respect the organisation.
History
The Bounties Legion was founded by the infamous bounty hunter Samuel Warend, better known as The Flame.
Samuel was already developing a reputation as an exceptionally dangerous hunter when the organisation began forming around him.
What initially existed as a network of hunters, contacts and contract providers gradually developed into something considerably larger.
Instead of bounty hunters independently searching for employers, intelligence, equipment and payment, the Legion could provide all of them.
A hunter could receive a contract through the Legion, access verified intelligence, use Legion facilities and have payment secured before ever encountering the target.
The system proved enormously successful.
Over time, the Bounties Legion expanded throughout the galaxy.
Samuel became recognised as its original leader.
He would not remain in the position forever.
Samuel Warend
Founder
Name: Samuel Warend
Callsign: The Flame
Role: Founder / Original Leader
Current Status: Active Hunter
Samuel Warend is universally recognised as the founder of the Bounties Legion.
One of the most infamous bounty hunters in the galaxy, Samuel became known for both extraordinarily quick kills and considerably more brutal methods when circumstances demanded them.
Despite founding the Legion, Samuel eventually relinquished direct leadership.
He remained a bounty hunter.
Samuel has shown little interest in returning to administrative leadership.
When questioned about who currently controls the organisation, he generally refuses to provide a meaningful answer.
Modern Leadership
LEADERSHIP STATUS
The identity of the current leader of the Bounties Legion is unknown.
The modern command structure of the Bounties Legion is deliberately difficult to understand.
Multiple individuals have claimed to be:
Leader of the Bounties Legion.
More unusually, several of these claims appear legitimate.
Individuals claiming leadership have demonstrated access to authentic Legion command systems, infrastructure and authority.
Different stations may recognise different command representatives.
Official documentation can contain contradictory information.
High-ranking Legion personnel rarely clarify the situation.
It remains unclear whether modern Legion leadership consists of:
- A single hidden leader
- Multiple leaders
- A ruling council
- A distributed command structure
- A deliberately rotating position
- Another system entirely
The ambiguity is believed to be intentional.
Why Hide the Leader?
An organisation specialising in locating and eliminating specific individuals understands better than almost anyone the danger created by identifiable leadership.
A publicly known leader creates a target.
A target can be:
- Located
- Monitored
- Blackmailed
- Captured
- Assassinated
The modern Legion appears to have solved this problem by making it extremely difficult to determine whether such a target even exists.
You cannot easily assassinate the leader of an organisation when nobody can prove who the leader is.
Organisation
The Bounties Legion maintains a considerably looser hierarchy than conventional military factions.
Hunters are expected to operate independently and may spend extended periods away from Legion facilities.
Authority becomes more important during:
- Multi-hunter contracts
- Major operations
- Internal disputes
- High-priority assignments
- Legion security incidents
Hunters
Hunters form the core of the Bounties Legion.
They vary enormously in:
- Species
- Equipment
- Combat ability
- Specialisation
- Experience
- Methods
- Morality
- Reputation
There is no standard Legion combat doctrine.
A hunter is expected to develop methods that suit them.
Captains
Captain is a senior operational position within the Bounties Legion.
Captains may be trusted to:
- Coordinate multiple hunters
- Lead major contracts
- Access restricted intelligence
- Request significant Legion resources
- Resolve operational disputes
- Represent Legion interests during field operations
Sentinel is a known Legion Captain.
Captain does not automatically mean leader of the Bounties Legion.
Legion Stations
The Bounties Legion maintains stations and facilities throughout the Omicron Galaxy.
These locations serve as neutral operating hubs for hunters.
A typical Legion station may contain:
- Contract terminals
- Accommodation
- Medical facilities
- Armouries
- Equipment vendors
- Ship maintenance
- Landing facilities
- Intelligence services
- Training areas
- Bars and recreational areas
- Secure target holding facilities
Legion stations vary enormously in size.
Some are major installations servicing large numbers of hunters.
Others are little more than fortified safehouses located in remote regions.
Station Culture
Legion stations possess a very different atmosphere from military installations.
There are few standard uniforms.
Hunters carry wildly different weapons.
Numerous species may occupy the same facility.
Ships from across the galaxy regularly arrive and depart.
A hunter returning from a contract may walk past another hunter preparing to leave for one.
Rivalries are common.
So are friendships.
Arguments over contracts, targets, equipment and methods are considered normal.
Violence within Legion facilities is considerably less tolerated.
Whatever hunters do outside the station is their business.
Inside it, they are expected to follow Legion rules.
Contracts
Contracts are the foundation of the Bounties Legion.
Individuals, corporations, governments, organisations and other clients may submit bounty requests through Legion channels.
Before being distributed, contracts are evaluated and verified.
Relevant information may include:
- Target identity
- Known aliases
- Last known location
- Criminal history
- Known associates
- Expected resistance
- Requested outcome
- Payment
- Contract restrictions
Hunters can then accept assignments according to their skills and preferences.
Not every hunter accepts every contract.
Many develop preferred target types.
Contract Outcomes
Contracts may require different outcomes.
Common requirements include:
Capture
The target must be recovered alive.
These contracts may involve:
- Criminal extradition
- Intelligence gathering
- Missing persons
- Hostage recovery
- Fugitive capture
Dead or Alive
The target may be returned alive or confirmed dead.
Individual hunters determine the appropriate approach.
Some prefer whichever solution is fastest.
Others deliberately choose the more challenging option.
Roulette is known to favour live capture when circumstances allow, partly because she finds it more interesting.
Termination
The target must be killed.
Proof of termination is required before payment is released.
Contract Verification
The Legion verifies contract completion before releasing secured payment.
Verification methods vary depending on the target and contract.
This system protects both clients and hunters.
Clients cannot easily refuse payment after successful completion.
Hunters cannot easily claim rewards for targets they never captured or killed.
The Legion’s reputation depends heavily upon this system.
Payment
The Bounties Legion acts as an intermediary between clients and hunters.
Payment is generally secured before a contract becomes available.
Upon successful completion, the Legion takes an agreed percentage before releasing the remainder to the hunter.
This percentage supports:
- Legion stations
- Intelligence gathering
- Medical services
- Contract administration
- Security
- Equipment infrastructure
- Information networks
For many hunters, this trade is worthwhile.
A smaller guaranteed payment is preferable to chasing an employer across half the galaxy because they suddenly decided they did not want to pay.
Independence
Legion hunters are given extraordinary freedom.
The organisation generally does not dictate:
- Armour design
- Weapon choice
- Ship choice
- Hunting style
- Personal appearance
- Combat doctrine
This freedom has produced some of the most unusual and recognisable hunters in the galaxy.
A Legion station may contain everything from ordinary humanoid gunfighters to advanced Androids, anomalously altered individuals and hunters carrying technology from entirely different civilizations.
Reputation
The Bounties Legion is simultaneously respected, feared and disliked.
Governments use its services.
Corporations use its services.
Military organisations use its services.
Criminals use its services.
Sometimes these groups hire the Legion to hunt one another.
The organisation’s independence makes it useful to factions that cannot or do not wish to deploy their own personnel.
It also makes the Legion politically uncomfortable.
A government may condemn bounty hunters publicly while quietly submitting contracts through Legion channels.
Membership
Bounties Legion membership is based primarily upon capability.
Species, origin and previous occupation matter considerably less than whether an individual can successfully complete contracts.
The organisation contains:
- Humans
- Androids
- Enhanced individuals
- Former soldiers
- Mercenaries
- Trackers
- Pilots
- Assassins
- Specialists
- Independent hunters
Membership does not make every hunter equal.
Reputation matters enormously.
A hunter who repeatedly completes difficult contracts may gain access to better intelligence, more valuable assignments and greater trust.
Equipment
There is no standard Bounties Legion equipment package.
Hunters acquire, modify and maintain their own weapons and armour.
Some use conventional firearms.
Others use advanced technology.
Some possess unusual abilities.
Others rely entirely upon training and intelligence.
Personal equipment frequently becomes strongly associated with individual hunters.
Known Hunters
Samuel “The Flame” Warend
Founder and original leader of the Bounties Legion.
An infamous bounty hunter possessing powerful fire-based abilities and highly heat-resistant armour.
Despite his reputation and the enormous bounty placed upon his own head, Samuel remains active.
Hornet
An Android bounty hunter built around adaptive combat intelligence.
Hornet can observe and temporarily model physically reproducible combat techniques used by opponents.
He possesses no strong preference for a particular weapon and is highly proficient at adapting to equipment acquired during a hunt.
Sentinel
A human tracker and Legion Captain.
Sentinel uses an extremely advanced helmet-mounted sensor suite capable of detecting targets through numerous environmental and technological methods.
Patient, athletic and methodical, Sentinel is frequently trusted with complex operations involving multiple hunters.
Stalker
One of the Legion’s most mysterious hunters.
Stalker possesses limited temporal distortion abilities allowing him to briefly manipulate his own perception and movement or create small localised temporal disruptions.
Almost nothing about his history is publicly known.
Zero
A stealth and infiltration specialist equipped with advanced active camouflage technology.
Zero frequently operates alongside Grim.
The two are considered a permanent hunting partnership.
Grim
A close-quarters specialist possessing technology capable of draining biological energy through physical contact.
Grim usually operates alongside Zero.
Together, the pair are notorious for highly destructive and chaotic contracts.
Hydra
An aerial pursuit specialist and highly experienced pilot.
Hydra specialises in:
- Jetpack combat
- Zero-gravity engagements
- Boarding actions
- High-altitude operations
- Aircraft pursuit
- Small spacecraft combat
His equipment includes magnetic boots and heavily modified flight systems.
Mirage
A deception specialist who uses advanced holographic and sensory manipulation technology.
Mirage creates:
- False personnel
- Phantom movement
- Fake muzzle flashes
- False thermal signatures
- Artificial radio traffic
- Misleading audio
Fighting Mirage frequently means being unable to determine which information is real.
Anne “Roulette” Harlow
A cocky, teasing and deceptively intelligent hunter known for deliberately encouraging targets to underestimate her.
Roulette specialises in improvisation, psychological manipulation and close-range combat.
Her preferred weapons include:
- Compact revolver
- SMG
- Throwing knives
Despite frequently behaving like an idiot around targets, Anne possesses exceptional practical and social intelligence.
Some of her stupidity is an act.
Some of it is not.
Internal Relationships
Bounties Legion hunters frequently work together but are not organised into permanent military units.
Some partnerships become long-term.
Others exist for a single contract.
Examples include:
- Zero and Grim operating as a permanent pair
- Sentinel coordinating larger operations
- Roulette frequently creating administrative headaches
- Hydra providing aerial expertise
- Hornet adapting to roles depending upon mission requirements
Competition between hunters is common.
Sabotaging the Legion itself is treated considerably more seriously.
Bounties on Legion Hunters
Membership within the Bounties Legion does not necessarily prevent an individual from acquiring a bounty of their own.
The most famous example is Samuel Warend.
Despite founding the organisation, Samuel possesses an enormous bounty that has never successfully been claimed.
Samuel appears largely unconcerned by this.
“Wouldn’t be much of a bounty hunter if I complained about mine.”
— Samuel Warend
The Legion’s Greatest Weapon
The most dangerous resource controlled by the Bounties Legion is arguably not its hunters.
It is information.
Across countless contracts, the Legion has accumulated enormous quantities of data concerning:
- Criminal organisations
- Military personnel
- Political figures
- Smuggling routes
- Hidden settlements
- Ships
- Corporations
- Known aliases
- Safehouses
- Faction movements
Every hunt potentially generates more intelligence.
Every hunter contributes something.
As the Legion grows, finding somewhere in the galaxy where its network knows nothing becomes increasingly difficult.
